2026 Summer Training

Our summer training this year is using Livelox as a training aid.

Here is how it works:

  • Register for Summer Training by clicking the "Register Now" button at the bottom of this page. There is no cost, but you have to have an Annual Waiver on file with the system.
  • You will get a link to a shared folder where you can download zip files of the maps.
  • A Livelox event for each location will be active all summer. Record your run and upload to Livelox, and you can compare with other runners or even yourself.

More details:

  • Advanced courses only, of various lengths.
  • No control flags, only the famous blue vetting tape, aka surveyors tape or flagging tape. This is what we use to mark control locations when designing courses. It is much harder to see than control flags. Also, the deer may pull it down! So, yes, advanced level.
  • We are starting with Sweetwater East side only, but have plans to add more locations as time goes on. East side starts at the bridge - do not drive down there - park at the end of the lake and walk.
  • I will announce more training locations on the email list when they are ready.

Training advice (for what it is worth!)

  • Go to the trouble of recording your route and uploading to Livelox. There are many ways to do this - do some research. Back in the olden days we used to try to draw our route after the fact on the map - if we could remember where we went. Having a gps track that can display on the map is an awesome training tool - use it!
  • Why run the same course over again? Can you correct your mistakes? Can you do it faster if you are familiar with it? Would a different route choice be better? Are you faster choosing trails and running around, or trying to go straight? Are you faster going over the hill or running the contour lines? Here is your chance to answer many of these questions.
  • If you run the same course again, when you upload to Livelox you need to choose a different runner name or it will overwrite your first run.
  • You are on your own. No one else will be there to look for you. Let someone know where you are going. Know your options to bail out. Take water. Use some sort of insect repellent for ticks and chiggers.

And don't forget to have fun!
